Hello again
I'm back. In the intervening months I have written many interesting things on Wikipedia. Did you know, for example, that U.S. president Warren G. Harding died less than two months after he sold his newspaper The Marion Star; and that the two men to whom he sold it, Louis H. Brush and Roy D. Moore, were accused by banker Frank A. Vanderlip of having bribed Harding into selling them the paper?
A few weeks ago I found out, courtesy of an edit by Irish genealogist Daniel Loftus, what day of the year Peter Tyrrell was born (16 October 1916) and what his mother's name was (Mary Cronin). Tyrrell's military records, interestingly, give his date of birth instead as 15 March 1917. It was common for inmates of industrial schools to be misled or left in the dark about their personal information, so that may have been the case here.
In February I expanded a few articles about obscure politicians. Morgan C. Hamilton was a Republican senator in Texas who, unusually for Texans around the Civil War, supported the Union and opposed slavery. He went, thinking he was having just a winter vacation, to San Diego, California in September of 1893. His vacation turned out to be his last hurrah; he died on November 21, in the Horton House, of bronchitis at the ripe old age of eighty-four. Nobody there knew him, so it took two days to identify the remains and five more to return his body to Austin to be buried.
James D. Dewell, the sixty-seventh Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut, had an end as interesting. In his later years he suffered from bouts of what he thought was "acute indigestion", and would "solve" this issue by drinking hot water. Well, it was not indigestion. On the morning of April 19, 1906, he drank hot water as usual, but this time he did not get better; it was probably angina that was causing him all these troubles. Though his wife summoned a physician, he ended up dying anyway.
I did not complete the story I told you I was writing, alas. More interesting literary pursuits (see above) swept me away from the realm of fiction writing.
